Seedlings

Our seedlings are off to a great start. Nearly all of our seeds have sprouted and the seedlings that are through are now powering.

The Broccoli, Red Cabbage and Kale have all come through and are powering. The two Zucchini’s that have come through are huge already. It definitely won’t be long until they can be planted. We just need to finish building the Hugelkultur beds. The corn has started to pop through this afternoon for the back of the yard. We’re heading in the right direction. I can’t wait to see a garden full of productive vegetables like we’ve dreamed of.

All of our seedling potatoes have now developed eyes. Once they get bigger they will get planted into the ground in front of the Hugelkultur’s. According to our research for every kilogram of potatoes we plant we should get between 5kg and 10kg in return. We use a lot of potatoes so it will be interesting to see if what we plant will be enough supply for our consumption and if the 1:5 ratio is correct. The varieties we have gone with this year are Nicolas and Dutch Creams.
