Hello, 2025! A Year of Fresh Starts, Familiar Faces, and Exciting Adventures

The dawn of a new year has a way of filling us with energy and inspiration, and here on the homestead, we’re diving into 2025 with big dreams and dirty hands! This year, it’s all about reconnecting with what we love most: sustainable living, nurturing our little corner of the earth, and embracing life’s beautiful simplicity.

First on our list is welcoming home our dear chickens, who’ve been away on a babysitting adventure. We’re building them a new coop using scrap materials from around the property that we can move to different locations as needed. It’s the ultimate upcycling project—functional, sustainable, and filled with love. Soon, their cheerful clucks and pecks will bring life to the yard again!

Our fruit trees are also coming back home after their own little “holiday.” With these leafy treasures returned, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and map out the orchard of our dreams. Rows of apples, citrus, and stone fruits will soon fill the air with blossoms and buzz. It’s the start of something sweet (and delicious)!

Meanwhile, the veggie garden is getting an expansion, because we’re diving headfirst into growing more of our own food. There’s something magical about harvesting fresh greens, root veggies, and herbs straight from the soil. This year, we’re also focusing on canning and preserving. From pickled cucumbers to jams bursting with local flavour, we’re filling jars with garden goodness to sustain ourselves and share with loved ones.

Back in the kitchen, our sourdough starter will soon be ready for action. Our dehydrated sourdough starter stash has been located and we’re ready to hit the ground running! The scent of fresh, crusty loaves will soon fill the house once more, bringing warmth and nourishment to chilly mornings and hearty dinners. There’s nothing like baking bread to remind us of life’s simple, delicious joys.

In addition to cultivating and preserving plant-based bounty, we’re also turning our attention to sustainable meat sources. From raising and processing our own livestock to mindful hunting practices, we’re committed to honoring the circle of life and providing nourishing food for our family. It’s a labor of respect and gratitude for the land and its creatures.

Beyond the homestead, we’re continuing our wildlife rescue efforts with FAWNA. Helping native animals heal and thrive is a deeply rewarding part of our year, and we’re thrilled to play a role in giving these creatures a second chance.

On the creative front, the workshop will be buzzing as we craft more handmade salves, soaps, and treasures. These little labors of love will soon find their way to local markets, where we hope to spread a bit of homestead magic to our community.

But 2025 isn’t just about the homestead—it’s also about adventure! Emma is ready to hit the water for some kayaking, bass fishing, and trout fishing expeditions. Armed with her paddle and a spirit of exploration, she’s embracing the call of the wild and the promise of serene moments on the water.

As we step into this new year, we’re filled with gratitude for all we’ve accomplished and excitement for what lies ahead. Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to a year of growth, adventure, and countless cups of tea shared with friends and family.

Wishing you a joyful and abundant 2025,
🌱 The Homespun & Homegrown Family 🌱
