We love eating homemade bread. The smell of it cooking and those first slices when it’s hot out of the bread maker, you just can’t beat it. We really like the Laucke Crusty White bread mix and keep an eye out for when it’s on sale. Usually we buy the 2.4kg but were stoked to find the 5kg bag on special at our local Woolworths. There was no way we could pass it up.
The 5kg bags work out more cost effect even at full price at $3.10/kg rather than $4/kg. Today we vacuum sealed the mix into 500g portion sizes so the mix stays fresh and we can easily grab it out and make a fresh loaf of bread. Miss E loved sitting up and helping press the buttons on the vacuum sealer. She loves being involved in cooking and food preparation.
It only took a small amount of time to do and the bread mix will last so much longer. Once emptied the vacuum bags can either be washed and reused or recycled through the soft plastics recycling. Not an overly exciting post but this is going to save us time and money in the long run.
