Miss E was gifted a fairy garden for her second birthday but it has been a constant battle to keep the plants alive. We started with strawberry plants but they were pulled out by a certain someone… We then tried some random flowering plants from our garden that she enjoys picking, however the frost killed them off. We decided the fairy garden needed a bit of a revamp. Miss E was given some special rocks, a wooden toadstool and we pulled some bulb flowers from the front garden. She picks these flowers every time she does out the front, so she was very excited about this addition.
We picked up the wind wheel at the local swap meet and added it in behind the plants. Miss E then carefully placed all her treasures in and around the plants. That night the fairies came to visit and left some fairy dust and some stars (one of Miss E’s favourite things). The plan is to slowly add to the garden with things that we find around the neighbourhood, yard or op-shops, keeping it as low cost and nature based as possible. Some ideas on what we plan to collect are:
-Other rocks to make stone stacks with
-Leaves to make natural confetti
– Seed pods
-Sticks to make houses and furniture
This could easily be made with a spare pot in the shed or in an empty corner of the garden. It doesn’t have to be for fairies. You could do similar as a dinosaur field, animal reserve or using certain plants as an insect/bee/butterfly sanctuary. I will post updates as we add to this magical space.
