With Spring coming up quick smart, we did a bulk order online of seeds ready to plant into our HugelKultur’s. I had never heard of a Huhelkultur until my husband brought it up after doing lots of research and it should hopefully work in our favour. It gives us a way to use the tree’s and tree limbs we’ve cut since moving in rather than having to cut them down and put in the green waste bin (I’ll do another post about our Hugelkultur with some pictures). Our plan with the seeds is to fill the 3 Hugelkultur’s, our herb garden and to have some produce growing directly in the ground.
Because we are still getting frosts we opted to start the seeds in seedling trays. This way we can bring them in if the nights are going to get too cold. We used a mixture of organic seedling soil from Bunnings, worm castings from our worm farms and coco fibre as our seedling soil mixture. These will get a daily mist and hopefully we will start seeing some growth. We also have seedling potatoes set out on egg cartons inside in a nice sunny spot ready to sprout. Our long list of seeds are:
